Hello, I'm Melody
I support & promote the creative practice of contemporary craft makers.
I’m a freelance creative consultant focusing on communication skills and creative practice development. I offer support to makers in finding their voice, communicating about their practice and writing effective and exciting text for websites, applications and social media.
I am also a writer & curator. I create opportunities for makers to develop their creative practice and careers through exhibitions and public events.
My approach is a friendly, conversational collaboration centred on dialogue and underpinned by a passion for communicating about making.
You can find out more about me here.
Here are some of the ways we can work together.
New FREE resource
The autumnal equinox is a great time for reflecting on your practice, and thinking about where you’d like to take it in the last months of the year.
My Creative Practice Review is designed to offer some questions and prompts that help you acknowledge the great work you’ve been doing so far and help harness energy for the things you still hope to achieve.

Makers & Tools
Makers & Tools was a collaborative making project exploring the relationship between craft makers and their tools.
The project connected six contemporary craft makers in the early stages of their careers, who undertook a non-verbal conversation through an exchange of objects. Each maker was asked to create a new kind of tool, which was sent on to one of the other makers. The challenge, then, was to make a new object using or inspired by this tool.
The exhibition opened up the conversation and asked: “What happens if a maker doesn’t choose their tools? What if they are gifted a tool created by another maker? What effect does this seemingly benign intervention have on their making process, and what possibilities does this allow?”
Exhibition at Arts at the Old Fire Station, Oxford ran from 17 May - 15 June 2019
Downloads & e-books
I've created a range of free downloads and e-books you can buy all aimed at the needs of craft makers. From advice to emerging makers at the start of your creative careers to top tips on all the writing you'll need to do as part of your practice and business, these resources are designed to help make the communication you do about your work that little bit easier!
For me, there is currently a fundamental problem with ‘making’ as a creative act. I have deep concerns about its effects on people and the planet, things we do not see directly but have a hand in. I want to articulate these concerns I’ve been having about the sector I work in, because it no longer feels like an option, something that only some people should engage with. Creating work in a responsible manner is everyone’s issue.

I send out a monthly newsletter with the latest news and updates about my services. It also rather handily contains a comprehensive list of all the upcoming deadlines, so you'll never miss that vital application again! Every now and then, when I've created new resources or offer new services, or amazing opportunities come up, I may send out individual emails letting you know more information. It's also the place to hear about any offers or discounts. Don't miss it!
